Victor Montagliani, vice president of FIFA, the world’s premier institution of football, has said international matches could be postponed until 2021 to allow travel restrictions and club competitions full opportunity due to the Corona virus epidemic. Montegliani, a Canadian citizen and president of the North-Central America and Caribbean region, heads FIFA’s workgroup, which has been tasked with preparing the future plan after the previous month’s ban on soccer activities around the world.
FIFA has already canceled international matches to be held in March and April. Montegliani has said that national teams’ matches in September, October and November can also be canceled.
He said, “It is my personal opinion that it will be a bit challenging not only for health reasons but also because of international travel restrictions.” Montegliani said, “I believe domestic football will be a priority. Even if we get permission to play football matches, I doubt that the first match will be played in the presence of fans. I think March 2021 would be a good time for international matches. ‘
