The Montreal WTA tournament, considered important for US Open preparations, has been postponed until 2021. The tournament was scheduled to be held from August 7 to 16 but the province of Quebec urged the cancellation of all sports and cultural events until August 31 to reduce the spread of the Korana virus, after which the tournament was difficult to organize.
“The Quebec government has asked not to hold any events until August 31, due to which the Rogers Cup in Montreal has been postponed until 2021,” the WTA said in the statement.
It states, “The WTA has been saying from the beginning that health and safety will remain a top priority.” We understand that this was a difficult decision. We will wait for a return to Montreal in 2021. ‘
